Artist Profile – Dylan Taylor

Dylan Taylor's current work is informed by the observation of economic and social status, the division of class systems, and the despondency often present within subjects at opposite ends of the socio-economic scale.

With a strong base of drawing and painting, his works are frequently executed on found media such as children's story books, and popular women's magazines from the 1950's.

Drawing from a golden age of commercial media, imagery depicting idealized scenes and utopian ideologies are hijacked and defaced to subvert their meaning with a social, political, or culturally disruptive theme in place.

Influences on Taylor's work include: the internet, gang culture, porn, spam emails, graffiti, vandalism, unpopular culture, depression, music and Dimitri's Souvlakis.

Whether the narrative is being delivered from the author's viewpoint, or is the zeitgeist of a contemporary or past age is uncertain. Taylor's works are purposefully ambiguous, playfully crude, and darkly comic.
