In this new body of work Earl Tutty explores the idea of entrapment. He states: ‘The captive bird acts as metaphor, observer and messenger for relationships, both domestic and for those less tangible. I’m interested in the idea of a bird that has the ability to mimic the human voice, regurgitating the spoken word and being a reporter of scenes and conversations. A quite little observer of the human condition. There are also parallels to be drawn between the lot of the human subject and that of its caged companions.’ Tutty teaches graphic design at the CPIT School of Art and Design and exhibits at COCA in solo and group exhibitions.
