The Top Floor, 2nd–8th September 2009

This exhibition includes works from four primary and one high school alongside the illustration work that inspired them. The children’s illustration works were created after viewing earlier exhibitions. “Off the page” – works by NZ children’s book illustrators and “Of Fairies, Monsters, Ghosts and Creatures” – Contemporary Picture Book Illustration from Germany. Both these exhibitions showed a diverse range of illustration techniques some with accompanying text. The children from the primary schools also attended a practical workshop, working with either Gavin Bishop or Jenny Cooper at the gallery. Most work was then completed and extended further back in the classroom. The high school student exhibiting decided to further her own illustration ideas in individual works based loosely on the theme of fairies and monsters.
