Sculptor Georgina West interest in subverting viewer expectations and experience of everyday objects remains critical to her practice. In this new body of work she reconstructs and manipulates seemingly mundane furniture and domestic items, animating and changing them with an interest in drawing attention to their roles and functions in our lives. West ‘s furniture and utensils seem to take on personas and personalities that reference bodily functions of digestion, sexual behaviour and memory. West has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the South Island, (including the High Street Project and COCA) and graduated with a First Class MA in Sculpture from the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts in 2004.
