In My Chair is a collection of portraits and biographical vignettes of Cantabrians selected by John Gillies to celebrate the special qualities of people typical of those who live in the unique province of Canterbury. The concept provided the artist with a unique opportunity to explore and develop his painting technique and style to rekindle fresh enthusiasm for traditional society portraiture.
