The Port Hills, a prominent Canterbury geological feature of volcanic origin, much beloved by tour buses, walkers, cyclists, amateur artists, prostitutes and their clients, boy racers and property developers, or, a heap of cheap cardboard boxes to be kicked, crushed, stamped on and flattened? Mike Depree emphatically proves the latter in an exhibition for the appreciation of all those with a deep seated hatred of cardboard boxes. Depree is a South Island-based artist who had worked in film, television and as a painters since the 1970s. He has exhibited regularly at COCA since 1998 and has work in numerous private collections throughout New Zealand.
