Paul Haywood - 'End Of The Game'

Front Gallery, 17th December 2008–11th January 2009

End of the Game makes reference to the dilemmas of existence at the beginning of the 21st century and Paul Haywood’s ongoing concern to seek out solutions. Haywood’s paintings are informed by formalist modernist traditions and an engagement with an organic iconography that continues to reaffirm humanity’s capacity for change and progress. His capacity move between evocative narratives and abstraction remains critical to his practice. Haywood observes: ‘We as humanity are surrounded and constantly reminded of the impending climax to our civilization as we know it, whether it be economic, resource depletion, starvation, climate unpredictability, or catastrophic Universal unknowns. Humanity is in danger.’
