Venue Hire at COCA Gallery

The Centre of Contemporary Art (COCA) is located within Christchurch’s Cultural Precinct and is a unique venue for corporate and private functions.  

It can cater for small groups and private functions or for larger events of up to 400 people. COCA is pleased to hire out the gallery for corporate functions, wedding receptions etc. We have a number of gallery spaces available for hire, the most popular being our largest space, the Mair gallery.

Generally the gallery can be hired out for an evening function for $700 incl gst. This includes 2 hours for the function, and about 1 - 1 ½ hours either side for set up and clean up. 

The gallery can also be hired out for a wedding reception for $2000 incl gst. This is a general basic starting price, there may be additional costs for security, cleaning etc. Generally we prefer people to be out at 12pm.

Clean up needs to be completed before the gallery opens the next day (12noon Saturdays & Sundays, 10am Tues-Fri). Should the space be required for longer periods than what is outlined, the hire cost will be adjusted accordingly. We can be flexible with these timeframes to suit the client. Preferably, set up is to begin no earlier than 4pm, as we like to be able to keep the space open to the public for as long as possible before we close at 5pm.

As COCA is first and foremost an art gallery, our main concern is always the safety of the works. All bookings are subject to confirmation that works on display are not vulnerable to damage.

The Gallery has single phase lighting.

The dimensions for the Mair Gallery are as follows:

Floor Area: 234 square metres

Stud Height: 5.2 metres

Side Walls: 17.7 metres

End Wall: 8.2 metres

End Wall Side Panels: 2.2 metres

Wall Beside Stairs: 3 metres 

Total Hanging Length: 51 metres
